Chicken Wrangler

While I was born and raised in Texas, I didn't have my first, real experience with livestock until I was 22. I had just moved across the world to a small village in rural Kyrgyzstan, and began a new life among the sheep and hens as an TEFL teacher/trainer.

Through this experience, I was able to solidify my decision to pursue a career in education and nonprofit. I found that working within a community had the best potential in creating sustainable, systemic changes for students. Being able to see it happen first hand in my own village fueled this passion, and I've continued to nurture it beyond my time as an educator.

Purpose

To contribute in creating a world of more inclusive, accessible, quality education.

I have always had an interest in educational equity and accessibility. At present, I work as a Grants Manager with United Way Monterey County. Prior to this, I was a New Business Development Intern with IREX, focusing on USAID multi-million dollar grants.

I believe there are many ways to achieve one's purpose, and there is value in every experience. Everything I've learned, every mistake I've made, has only made stronger in my work. I am determined, and I am relentless.
